Film Traveller Côte d’Azur France is a blog covering the film connections of the Côte d’Azur region of the South of France.
We all enjoy watching classic movies set in exotic locations, with actors such as Cary Grant, Grace Kelly and Sean Connery spending their days being chased along mountain roads in sports cars or lazing on a sun-dappled beach before their next romantic interlude.
Today’s films may not be as glamorous as they once were, but those locations still exist, if you know where to look.
This blog was created by arts journalist Jonathan Melville and travel blogger Kash Bhattacharya after a discussion with the Côte d’Azur tourism board in 2012. It was agreed that the area, also known as The French Riviera, was a paradise for film fans who wanted to follow in the footsteps of their cinema heroes, but that trying to find the various locations wasn’t so easy.
In January 2013, Jonathan took a 10-day trip to the Côte d’Azur in search of film locations and connections in the area, visiting 16 towns and villages and taking photos and videos along the way. The result is this blog, which will be updated in the coming months with posts covering the areas film connections.
Jonathan Melville is a freelance arts journalist who writes a weekly film column for the Edinburgh Evening News and regularly contributes to BBC Radio Scotland’s Movie Café. He established the online film magazine, www.reelscotland.com, in 2010 which went on to be named one of Scotland’s best websites by The List magazine in 2011. He also helps maintain Cinematic Scotland.
